Operator 3, Utilities
Resort Municipality of Whistler

We’re responsible for the water, drinking water and wastewater. And so we deal with any problems or things that need to be done from where the water comes (from rivers or wells) to any pipes and services like pump stations and pressure reducing stations before being water is used by the public. After use, the wastewater from the sewer gets to the treatment plant and is treated before water goes into the Cheakamus River.

I drive all the equipment for the municipality: excavators, dump trucks, backhoe and the vacuum truck. The vacuum truck plays an important part in maintaining the sewer.

Compared to other jobs I’ve worked on with the vacuum truck, I like this job because you arrive at the job site at the beginning and you work on it until the job is finished, rather than just turning up and doing a specialized task.

This area is really beautiful and offers a lot of outdoor, adventurous stuff. I’ve done a lot of whitewater kayaking, and now I do outdoor activities on the mountain like hunting, fishing, and skiing. This is a good place to raise a family.
