CUPE 2010 RMOW Municipal Workers Ratify New Agreement

WHISTLER – Civic workers in the Resort Municipality of Whistler, represented by CUPE 2010, have ratified a new three-year agreement that addresses affordability challenges for workers and ensures continued high quality public services for residents, visitors and businesses.

“We’re pleased to have completed this round of negotiations and reached an agreement that both reflects current economic conditions and recognizes the valuable services CUPE 2010 members provide in Whistler,” says CUPE 2010 President Pete Rozsa.

The three-year deal provides wage increases of 3 percent in 2022, 4.5 percent in 2023 and 4 percent in 2024. It also includes a one-time lump sum inflationary support payment of 4.5 percent, based on 2022 regular wages.

Other key improvements include increased vacation time for long serving members, improvements to call out and overtime language as well as changes to scheduling to better respect work-life balance.

“CUPE 2010 members are proud to provide critical community services that help make Whistler a vibrant and authentic year-round mountain resort community. We look forward to continuing to work with the Resort Municipality of Whistler to deliver those services,” adds Rozsa.

CUPE Local 2010 represents workers in the following departments at Whistler: utilities; maintenance at Meadow Park Recreational Facilities; central stores (buying and purchasing agents and auto mechanics); the Wastewater Treatment Facility; Village of Pemberton outside workers.

CUPE 2010 Village of Pemberton Employees Ratify New Collective Agreement

PEMBERTON – Employees of the Village of Pemberton ratified a new Collective Agreement. With the Municipal Council voting to approve the new agreement on March 1 and CUPE 2010 members concluding a vote in favour on March 2, Pemberton workers will now benefit from an improved three-year contract for a term retroactive to January 1, 2022, and concluding on December 31, 2024.

The agreement provided general wage increases of 2% on January 1, 2022, 2.5% on January 1, 2023, and 2.75% on January 1, 2024.

The CUPE 2010 Pemberton Bargaining Committee also achieved enhancement to benefits and changes to agreement language members identified as a priority, as well as updating provisions to align with legislation including extended parental leave and recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Day as a statutory holiday.

“I’m very proud of the uninterrupted services our members have provided our community throughout the pandemic,” said CUPE 2010 President Pete Rozsa. “Through fair collective bargaining, we were able to reach a deal that gave the members an increase in wages, better benefits, and improvements to language.”

Village of Pemberton employees provide vital public services to residents and visitors, as well as build and maintain critical municipal infrastructure. This new agreement will support Pemberton employees ongoing work serving the community which looks forward to future opportunities as the British Columbia and the world recover from the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CUPE 2010 launches website

CUPE 2010, representing municipal workers in the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Village of Pemberton launched a new website this week, 2010.cupe.ca.

“Our executive hopes that members find this website useful for information about their collective agreements, benefits, and how to contact their union,” said CUPE 2010 President Pete Rozsa. “It’s also a great place for the public to hear firsthand from our members about the services they provide.”

CUPE. 2010 members provide essential services including clean drinking water, maintaining the safe operation of wastewater treatment plants, snow removal and road upkeep, servicing all Whistler’s RCMP and Fire Rescue vehicles, ensuring the arena refrigeration plant and swimming pool are safe at Meadow Park Sports Centre, and keeping parks and trails safe and clean for area residents and visitors.
