Water Operator 2
Village of Pemberton

Having safe drinking water is important for everybody. We monitor water quality and work with Vancouver Coastal Health to ensure that all of the water quality parameters are met within our system.

I’ve worked here since 2011 and Pemberton has grown a fair bit over the years, so there has been a lot of new water infrastructure put in place and much more water treatment. On the water treatment side we chlorinate the water and adjust for alkalinity and pH levels. The water distribution side is about pipes in the ground – fire hydrants, valves, water meters – all the infrastructure required to get the water from the wells to the reservoirs and to peoples’ houses.

There’s definitely a lot of different things going on in any given day. I’m technically a water operator, but because our crew is fairly small, we also do what’s needed like snow clearing or dealing with a flood. I like the diversity of my job.

I live in Pemberton and enjoy mountain biking. The beauty of Pemberton is that the trails are right out your back door. It’s really convenient. And yeah, it’s a great place to live.
