Chief Operator, Wastewater
Resort Municipality of Whistler
From the moment that somebody flushes the toilet in their home, we transition the wastewater from there to the wastewater plant for treatment, and then to the Cheakamus River. My work involves troubleshooting and assessing equipment that facilitate the movement and treatment of wastewater, from homes to the Cheakamus River.
When you’re on call, you can be called out at any time and may have to deal with a variety of situations. For example, last night I had call-outs from members of the public about flooding concerns in the community – which isn’t necessarily an area I take care of– but I’ll field the phone calls and direct them as best I can. I also dealt with high levels in wastewater pumping stations that were related to heavy rains. Add in a water main break and your evening is full!
I like the people I work with and I like working in my community.
