Equipment Operator
Village of Pemberton

As well as an equipment operator, I’m also back-up wastewater treatment plant operator and water treatment operator. I’ve been clearing snow for the last couple of weeks. I do snow clearing, road maintenance. I like the range of daily tasks that need to be done. It’s something new every day so it keeps it interesting. I also volunteer with the Pemberton Fire Department a couple days a week.

We do a lot for the public. We make sure that the water is clean, the sewage system is working, roads are safe to drive on and all the signs are up.

The Village of Pemberton does a pretty good job of letting everyone know what’s going on. There’s more information on the water system in the summertime, especially when there’s a drought or water restrictions are in place. I think it’s important for the public to know why those restrictions are there.

We get our water from a series of drilled wells. If we’re at full capacity or are using more than we’re pumping, we can’t just turn on a tap and pump more. There’s a maximum amount, so when people are watering their lawn all at once and we’re in a water shortage, we can’t just add a pump and get more water to our system. It’s a lot more involved than that. We can only pull so much water out of the aquifers.
